HARBOUR NIGHTS

Bermudians and visitors alike mark the season of summer with Harbour Nights in Hamilton, a waterfront street festival hosted by the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce for nearly 30 years in the City of Hamilton. This year’s edition will run every Wednesday evening from 7 to 10 p.m., May 15 through August 28.

Visitors will find a concentration of culture on Front Street in Hamilton, which is shut down to traffic for the event to allow for a fully walkable thoroughfare. Purchase arts and crafts or jewellery in the vendors’ market, indulge in local and international fare served with a smile in the food court, and let the little ones enjoy bouncy castles, face painting, hair braiding, and other activities in the kids’ zone. A new addition to this year’s scene is the experience zone, where visitors will find interactive activities that vary by week, such as sports demonstrations, jewellery making workshops, and live painting sessions. Area bars, restaurants, and shops often stay open late for Harbour Nights; and the scene is made even livelier with dance and live music performances at the flagpole, where a stage is set up for Bermuda’s best to display their talents. Don’t miss the Gombey troupes, representing the iconic performance art of the island with masquerading, dancing, and drumming. Those who prefer to watch the scene from above can grab a balcony seat at an area restaurant, but be sure to make a reservation. This lively, family-friendly scene is a truly uplifting display of the island’s culture and one you should not miss.
